What drives him

Mark has been on roofs since 1978. He built Continental Roof Systems, a commercial roofing company, and later Realroofers. When the 2008 crash broke up the crews that build America's houses, he started the Foundation for Job Creation to ask one plain question: which companies actually create American jobs, and which only say they do?

That question led straight to the stock market, where he has spent years reading the filings of small public companies and calling out the financings that quietly wipe out ordinary shareholders. It led to teaching the trade he knows, to studying homelessness up close, and to getting people outdoors and talking.

What he cares about

  • Fixing the stock market, or at least exposing the scams. Read the guide
  • Training roofers through RooferSchool. More
  • Hiking with TrailShrinks, the free-speech hiking group. More
  • The Hikers Ball, the fifth one on November 13, 2027, with a holiday kickoff art show and sale. More
  • Cars for Homeless, getting donated cars to people so a car loan never puts them on the street. More

The rest of the man

  • A linguist and name expert. Writer and poet.
  • Inventor, including a way to generate electricity from traffic.
  • Graduate of Upsala College.
